Tennis star Serena Williams, 28 was named Female Athlete Of The Year by Associated Press. She received 66 of 168 votes placing her in the number one spot. No other candidate received more than 18 votes.
This is a wonderful award for Serena Williams after this summer’s outburst that cost her a fine up to 82,500. After she shouted and was accused of threatening an official. Serena still went on to prove thru her playing that she was still a top athlete and the summer blemish didn’t stop the judges from noticing her wonderful athletic ability.

“People realize that I’m a great player, and one moment doesn’t define a person’s career,” Williams told the AP. “And I was right, for the most part: It wasn’t right the way I reacted — I never said it was — but I was right about the call.”
Serena also noted that the outburst, which resulted in a record fine and two-year probationary period at Grand Slam tournaments, “got a lot more people excited about tennis.”
Runner up to Serena Williams was actually a four legger. A horse named “Zenyatta” who’s career is 14-0, Zenyatta is also the first female horse who won the Breeders Cup Classic.
